Climate change session by
Dr Ramanan ,Indian Meteorologist.

 

On 1st July 2024,Dr. S. R. Ramanan, an esteemed Indian meteorologist, addressed the students of Grades 9 to 12 on the topic of “Climate Change in India.” Sir has an illustrious career, having served as the Director of the Cyclone Warning Centre in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and currently serves on the advisory committee of the Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation Research at Anna University, Chennai. He retired in July 2016 after 36 years of dedicated service as a weatherman.

 

The seminar began with a prayer, followed by a welcome address from Ms. Jayalakshmi. Dr.Ramanan’s presentation was highly informative, covering a wide array of topics related to climate change. He discussed the significant impacts of globalisation and the role of city elevations in moderating weather patterns. He provided a detailed explanation of green buildings and their effects on global warming.
Sir, traced the evolution of heat waves in India, comparing data from the 1800s to 2024, giving students a comprehensive understanding of how weather patterns have shifted over time. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Pradeepa. Overall, the seminar was a valuable educational experience, leaving students with a deeper awareness and understanding of climate change and its implications in India.
