World wildlife Day pledge to protect the state Animal “Nilgiri Tahr”

The state animal of Tamil Nadu is the Nilgiri tahr (Nilgiritragus hylocrius). This mountain goat species is native to the Nilgiri Hills of the Western Ghats in southern India, including parts of Tamil Nadu. It’s known for its impressive climbing abilities and striking appearance, making it a symbol of the region’s biodiversity and natural heritage. Nilgiri Thar is an endangered species.

World Wildlife Day was observed by the Tamil Nadu Government by organising a pledge-taking activity in schools and digital certificates were also issued to the students. Students at Kikani took up the pledge to protect the animals and to raise awareness about the state animals in Tamil. We take pride in the active stewardship of our students in conservation efforts and in supporting habitat preservation.
