Coimbatore, September 2024 – In an inspiring achievement, students from Kikani Vidhya Mandir have secured a prestigious spot at the 6th International Conference on Sustainability Education (ICSE) 2024.
The event, took place on September 19 and 20, 2024, at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, which brought together young sustainability leaders from across South Asia under the theme “Greening Education for a Sustainable Future.”
The conference, through its ‘Youth for Earth’ campaign, provided a platform for young minds to showcase their innovative projects and ideas, contributing to a sustainable and resilient future. This year, the campaign focused on reorienting educational practices towards environmental consciousness and long-term sustainability. Projects that meet the campaign’s criteria are recognized and honoured, with a special emphasis on those that demonstrate significant impact in their communities.
The journey began in April 2024, when the call for projects was announced. Six teams from Kikani Vidhya Mandir, Coimbatore, each comprising seven students from Grades 9 to 12, were registered for the Youth for Earth (Y4E) campaign. Under the guidance of six dedicated teachers, these teams engaged in continuous and comprehensive work on their projects over a three-month period. Their efforts were documented through a video, detailed report, and geo-tagged photographs, all of which were submitted on July 21, 2024.
Out of the six teams, two projects stood out and emerged as winners in the junior category of the Youth for Earth Campaign:
These winning teams had been invited to present their projects at the 6th ICSE 2024, where they joined the global community of young change-makers committed to promoting sustainable practices.
The success of these projects reflects the dedication of the students and their mentors in fostering environmental literacy and leadership skills. By participating in the ICSE 2024 and Youth Conclave, Kikani Vidhya Mandir continues to inspire others in their journey towards sustainability and environmental stewardship.
