Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve (NBR) is one of the biologically sensitive zones in thr world and is a biological hotspot. NBR is one of the largest forest areas in South India. It encompasses of an area of 5,520 km2 of which 2,537.6 km2 is in the state of Tamilnadu. Unfortunately many busy state and national highways pass through this zone. It has been observed that many animals like Macaques, Deer, Boars etc. are killed daily by fast moving vehicles in these roads. Motorists travelling on forest roads do not follow forest road rules properly and they feed monkeys on the road and change their natural eating habits, thus monkeys run on the road blindly for food and thus die in road accidents.
